My review is based upon an ARC copy that was given to me.
Synopsis
The Kingdom is a place where technology helps dreams come to life. Formerly extinct species roam the park, and twelve beautiful 'Fantasists' – half-human, half-android princesses – entertain visitors and make wishes come true. But this fairytale ends in murder, and now Ana, one of the twelve Fantasists, is in the dock after finding herself experiencing emotions and romantic feelings against all her programming.
Pleasantly Surprised
I’m not one for female protagonists or stories on princesses. This book had both of those. I honestly did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The story was consistent and so were the characters. I loved Ana as a lead role in this book.
I think what gave me a little encouragement to read this book was it’s dystopian setting. I like the combination of artificial intelligence with entertainment. I believe this is initially where our world is headed. And the moral behind this book is extremely profound. We have to face the consequences for the things we create. We have to be ready to handle the repercussions.
The relationship between Owen and Ana wasn’t overkill, which I was relieved to find out. I liked the connection that gradually built between them.
My only complaint is that I would’ve liked a little more info on the other sisters. I wish they would have been more involved with the plot of this story. I felt like majority of the time we were stuck in Ana’s head only following her. Which wasn’t a bad thing because I enjoyed seeing the Kingdom from Ana’s eyes. But the whole Fantasist world was just so enticing that I naturally craved to know more about it.
I hope that my 3 star rating doesn't give the impression that I didn't think this was a good read. 3 stars isn't bad in my book. I just didn't think anything particular about this book stood out to me. But overall, well written book and I enjoyed it. Definitely room for a sequel.
