⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis:
Nick Andreas lives a privileged life. Or so some would say. He’s popular, handsome, smart and he’s on the football team. Everyone, including his girlfriend, Caitlin, would agree he’s nearly perfect, except for his father. To him, Nick is always falling short and can never do anything right. Things at home are toxic and it doesn’t take long before Nick and Caitlin’s relationship turns toxic, too. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree, right?
Well Done!
I had no idea this was Finn’s first novel. Needless to say I’m impressed. I was shocked to find that the situations and dialogue rang frighteningly true.
There were times when Nick would just do a 180 spin and flip from remorseful to malicious. We often attach the words “cute" and “harmless” to teen relationships, but people fail to realize that teens are products of their environment and easily impressionable. Abusive relationships exist in middle school and high school and Finn paints a picture that I think everyone should meditate on.
We see Ashley excusing offense after offense. We see their friends overlook it, try to intervene, overlook it again and then finally take action. We see Nick get shunned by his friends without knowing his background, and then we see him thrown in anger management classes.
Everything was in sequence. The denial, the retribution, the acknowledgment, the regret, the healing.. it’s the road to redemption.
I’m Satisfied
I enjoyed this book, although it would’ve been nice if it were a little longer and the anger management class scenes were stretched and more substance were added to them. I also would’ve liked a better ending. I felt as though some ends were left untied. What happened between Nick and his father? Caitlin? Tom?
