Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma

 ⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:

Chloe's older sister, Ruby, is the girl everyone looks to and longs for, who can't be captured or caged. When a night with Ruby's friends goes horribly wrong and Chloe discovers the dead body of her classmate London Hayes left floating in the reservoir, Chloe is sent away from town and away from Ruby.

But Ruby will do anything to get her sister back, and when Chloe returns to town two years later, deadly surprises await. As Chloe flirts with the truth that Ruby has hidden deeply away, the fragile line between life and death is redrawn by the complex bonds of sisterhood.

My Review:

Well, I was confused for majority of this book. The narration is messy and unclear and constantly jumped time periods. The premise was interesting, but that’s as far as it went for me. The characters lacked substance, except the main character, Ruby.

I feel like I want to say that Chloe was the main character, but with the way the narration glorified Ruby, it was only natural that she take the title of lead protagonist like she took everyone’s souls in the town.

There were some lines in the book that I wished I was imagining because they were just that ridiculous. I hated Ruby about 15 pages into the book. My disdain for her only grew after each page.
The metaphors Suma used were overkill; especially when it came to describing the perfection that was Ruby.

 I gag just typing this. . .

Why did I keep reading you ask?

Well, somewhere deep inside me, way way deep inside me. I mean, like really deep, I was holding out hope for this book. It’s not that the content was boring or anything. There was definitely elements in the book that encouraged me to turn the pages despite my contempt towards Ruby.

On arriving at the end I did get a few things I wanted. But a little more clarification on the origin of the plot would have satisfied me a little more. I still don’t know what was really going on. Like it was all, imaginary …
The book has even vanished from my shelf.

I think I was just imagining that I was holding a tangible thing.

Kidding! It’s missing because I threw that crap away
