Bleed Like Me by C. Desir

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:
Amelia Gannon is living a life with no substance. Her family is in shambles and she has secluded herself from the chaos and found what little relief she can through self-harm.
Then she meets Michael Brooks. Charming, bold, and equally distraught. They try to find purpose and happiness in one another, but can two people that can't swim really save each other from drowning?

What I Think:
The title alone made me want to check this book out. I finished this one in about two days. 278 pages of depression and instability you guys lol. I must warn you though, if you have a good imagination you may want to prepare yourself from a few disturbing chapters. Towards the end mainly.

Likes:
I liked the concept of this book. So many teens today try to find the answers to their problems in one another. The plot was realistic and relative to today. The conclusion to this novel is how things turn out when two broken people try to look to one another to be whole.
I liked Gannon's character, Desir didn't just portray her as some ignorant naive girl who was blind to what was really happening. There were times when she displayed rational thinking and spoke with sense.
Brooks' character was also well executed. He acted as someone who was damaged, hurting, and confused about the meaning of love and the proper demonstration of it.

Dislikes:
I thought the relationship between Gannon and Brooks developed way too fast. I wanted to see Brooks' nature and intent unravel slowly instead of him coming on so strongly. I assumed that he would appear as angel of light. I believe that would have created more suspense and built anticipation for the readers.

I also would have liked more info on the 3 brothers from Guatemala. More background info. I also wanted a more concrete scene involving the brothers and Brooks. That would have been a very defining moment on the type of guy Brooks was.

I don't like the fact that Desir didn't go into depth about Gannon's father leaving. I thought was a loose end that definitely should have been tied. I think he should have left before Gannon, that way we could actually know what happened between them and how it happened instead of hearing about through Gannon from her mom.

Last thing. I would have wanted to know more about Brooks' past. We didn't really get any definite knowledge on who he was prior to meeting Gannon. What was his life like? What was he like?
Every time he would tell Gannon something regarding his past, I got the feeling he was lying. The various rumors about him in school didn't help his case either. I felt like the book ended without me knowing Brooks' entirely.
Maybe at the end Desir could have made Gannon curious and look into Brooks' past and find out some things.

Overall, this book wasn't horrible. It was a quick light read that I think would totally be more enjoyable as a lifetime movie.
