Geez Louise
Maybe I should’ve waited to read this until the release date for the next installment was closer… I usually do that but series is way too compelling.
A Little Background Info
Ransom Riggs truly has a gift for writing. It still amazes me that this whole series was derived from a mere collection of photographs. Riggs never intended to create a story, let alone such a successful series. On the suggestion of an editor, Riggs used the images to build a banging story.
THANK GOD FOR THAT EDITOR!
Didn’t Miss a Beat
This installment had just as much adventure, humor and suspense as all the previous installments. You would think that you can only go so far with the same characters over and over again, but Riggs did well with introducing a new wave of characters gradually into the story. I also love still learning things about our original cast.
The peculiar kids have been put into a new environment, so in a sense we get to see the in a different light. I also love the dynamics of the relationship between Emma and Jacob. I was hoping that the whole “I dated your grandpa” element wouldn’t be completely overlooked. Because that’s kinda a major issue.
But
I was kind of hoping for a more serious main plot. Maybe I'm just speaking too soon but it seemed as though this installment was just full of tiny sub plots. Which is totally okay with me because the content intrigued me either way. I was wondering where this book was going because I didn’t see what more Riggs could possibly come up with by the time I was halfway through the book.
I obviously knew a few loose ends were left untied at the end of Library of Souls. There was definitely an opening for another book.
I’m just excited to see what’s in store for the 5th volume. Riggs has built up enough anticipation in this 4th book and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else these kids are capable of doing.
