Synopsis:
There’s a new principal at Jack Logan’s high school and he’s got a new rule. All seniors must be apart of a sports team for the entirety of their senior year. Although Jack comes from a family of athletes, he’s not athletic. Jack and a few other outcasts decide to start a C ranked soccer team who's sole mission is to lose very game they play. But they end up winning. Just not in soccer.
Writing Style
Klass tells this story in a witty and snappy style. I enjoyed the easy flow of the book. I really don’t like teen centered books that tend to be over articulate and just end up going over my head because the author decided to be wordy and profound.
Characters
The characters could have been developed a little more. I enjoyed the dialogue but I again think the connections between Jack and his friends could have been expanded on and a little more substance could have been added. It was on point when a tiny falling out happened and I feel like Klass should’ve took that opportunity to go beneath the surface.
During majority of the book there was a whole battle between some of the players who actually wanted to try winning vs. the players who wanted to continue to lose. I think Klass could’ve took a few pages to give us a reason as to why they wanted to continue to lose. We know that they just wanted to stick to the original plan, but it has to be something deeper than that.
I also thought that the principal, Muhdingler (i think that’s how it’s spelled) had some pretty juvenile insults… Like bro, you can do better than that…
Overall
This book served as a quick light read and despite the few dislikes I still enjoyed it. I give it an overall 3.5 rating, which is good in my book. The game scenes were well described and I enjoyed the plot of the story and I thought it was well executed.
