Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

   ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not sure why a lot of people don't like this book .... Action packed, suspenseful, eerie, twisted love, and the element of surprise. What more could you want out of a book? Those elements alone should have been enough to satisfy you.

Likes:

April's writing was clever. It kept me reeled in. Her disposition of each character was perfectly executed and their personalities were well developed. Everyone had a distinct vibe & I could tell who was speaking without her telling us.

I loved the mentions to Violet's Grandmother, Freddie, throughout the book. I found that they were refreshing & gave me a clear perspective on who Freddie was & just how much she meant to Violet. The fact that Violet loved to wear her grandmother's left behind clothes was kind of unsettling in a good way though. I just thought it was cool, probably cause I do the same thing...

The concept.... boy was I NOT ready for that twist! After finding out the source of the plot, I couldn't put this book down! I had to find out what happened next!

Dislikes:

I think River revealed himself much too soon and too easily. I would have liked it if he weren't the one to reveal himself. Maybe someone else could have. Or maybe Violet could have done a little more detective work & pieced together the clues & exposed River.

It kinda caught me off guard and briefly confused me that Brodie was thrown in towards the end of the book. I thought it was kinda cliche. I felt like he should have been given a few more minor roles throughout the book. You know, something a little more prevalent than Violet seeing him on a swing..

Overall:

I enjoyed this book. Their may have been a few things that I disagreed with & thought could be changed, but the fact that I was able to enjoy it anyway, speaks volumes.
